The Scrapniks were former robots created and used by Doctor Eggman on his Death Egg superweapon. The robots were abandoned when the Death Egg crashed. The robots attempted to repair themselves, although it gave them a scrappy look and created their own society independently from Dr Eggman.

The robots that would become the Scrapniks were believed to have been on board the Death Egg. When the Death Egg crashed into the Ocean, the robots within the ship were abandoned. (Scrapnik Island: #1) After "waking up", a scrapped and wrecked E-series robot began to repair some of the wrecked badniks that it found. Sigma repaired them with random parts, which resulted in the robots having mixmatched parts. Some time after that, Sigma and a group of "Scrapniks" found the wrecked form of Mecha Sonic on the coast of their island. The sonic robot was repaired and reactivated like the rest of the robots, as well as being given a place in their society. (Scrapnik Island: #2)
