- According to writer Ian Flynn, in the original pitched version of this story, Knuckles the Echidna would have traveled with Cream to fight Zeena, while Gemerl stayed behind. The roles were swapped at the last minute by request of Sega, however, due to them apparently wanting Knuckles to stay on Angel Island to guard the Master Emerald.
