IDW Publishing (Idea and Design Works, LLC) is an American comic publisher founded in 1999. They specialize primarily in comic book adaptations of existing media that are licensed to them.
They gained the license to produce American comic books based on Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog franchise in 2017, a license previously held by Archie Comics for the proceeding 24 years. Their first comic series under the new license agreement was officially announced on July 22, 2017 and was launched to the masses on April 4, 2018.
