The Hover Wispon is a Wispon that is both themed after and utilizes the power of the Green Wisp.

The Imprisoned Planet

At some point in the past, the Green Wisps, along with other fellow Wisps, and their planet came under the threat of Dr. Eggman. Fortunately, they were saved by Sonic the Hedgehog. Afterward, as thanks for saving their race and planet, a bunch of Green Wisps and other fellow Wisps settled down on Sonic's world where they helped out the residents of Sonic’s world whenever they could, the Wispons being one such way of helping in particular.[1] (StH: #3)

During the War

Near the end of the war, a town that served as a hub for Wispon distribution was saved from Badniks by the mercenary duo, Rough the Skunk and Tumble the Skunk. The two then offered to improve the town's defenses, but they winded up conquering the town. The Hover Wispon was one such Wispon hoarded by the mercenaries. (StH: #3)

Use by Claire Voyance

At one time, Smithy the Lion created a Hover Wispon for Claire Voyance, who nicknamed it as "Mantis", to use with her wisp.

After noticing that the Wispon distribution in the town that Rough and Tumble conquered had dried up, Knuckles the Echidna went to investigate. Sonic also showed up soon after. The two entered the town and fought against Rough and Tumble. However, their Wispons were left without power when Sonic convinced the Wisps in them to betray Rough and Tumble. After the two villains were defeated, the town's Wispons were returned to their owners, including the Hover Wispons. (StH: #3)

When Sonic appeared in the hometown of Tangle the Lemur, a militia soldier made use of a Hover Wispon to defend his town against a horde of Badniks that showed up. (StH: #4)

Trial by Fire

While Sonic, Tails and Belle were following motobud to the source of a mysterious signal to all badniks, they happen to see a Gala the Hound defending herself from badniks with a hover wispon.

Modeled after the Green Wisp, the Hover Wispon consists primarily of a Green Wisp-shaped component. However, this component has a grey grille instead of an eye, holes on the forehead, and white-tipped tentacles. This component has a dark green arm with white joints connected to it on each side, which connect to a dark green handle behind the Green Wisp-shaped component.

The Hover Wispon's signature function is its ability to hold Green Wisps inside it and harness their energies to power itself. Without a Green Wisp inside it, the Hover Wispon is useless.

Being built to clear out crowds of robots, the Hover Wispons must possess a widespread attack range.

Background Information

  • The Hover Wispon was based on the weapon of the same name in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series, where it first appeared in Sonic Forces. It was unnamed in the comic, but its name is considered tier 2 canon by this site's canon policy, as it does not contradict already established canon from tier 1.
  • In its appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog issue #4, the Hover Wispon was mistakenly colored red instead of green.
