DC Comics, Inc. (doing business as DC, formerly known as National Comics Publications and Detective Comics, Inc.) is an American comic book publisher and the flagship unit of DC Entertainment, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery.

DC Comics is one of the largest and oldest American comic book companies in the world. Founded in Autumn 1934 as National Comics Publications, with their first comic under the DC banner being published in 1937. It would be acquired by Kinney National Company in 1967, followed by Kinney National Company itself being acquired by wikipedia:Warner Bros.Warner Bros. two years later. DC's chief competitor is Marvel, which is owned by The Walt Disney Company.

DC is best known for titles such as Batman, Superman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Swamp Thing, Blue Beetle, Firestorm, John Constantine, Hellblazer, Watchmen, V For Vendetta, Jonah Hex, Ragman, Azrael, The Spectre, The Demon, The Question, Deadman, Deathstroke, Lobo, The Sandman, Birds of Prey, Preacher, Suicide Squad, The Outsiders, Peacemaker, Joker, Harley Quinn, Creature Commandos, Doomsday Clock, Rorschach, Catwoman, Black Canary, Black Lightning, Zatanna, Reign in Hell, Day of Vengeance, Injustice, Shadowpact, WildC.A.T.s, The Grifter, Gen 13 and Stormwatch, Transmetropolitan and iZombie. DC also published the popular humor magazine, MAD.

History[]

DC Comics' earliest collaboration with the Sonic the Hedgehog series is widely unknown in the mainstream. They were the first and only comic book publishing company to publish Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)'s comic book, the Sonic the Hedgehog (promotional comic), in multiple of their titles. The exact details behind the collaboration with DC Comics to promote Sonic the Hedgehog's first comic are unknown but it was likely part of Sega of America's aggressive marketing at the time.

In 2024, to celebrate Batman Day, an animated short featuring Shadow the Hedgehog as Batman confronting a crook was released. This would end up leading up to an announcement at Sonic Central, where SEGA would announce that they would be teaming up for a multi-year deal featuring more Sonic characters crossing over into the world of DC Comics, including Knuckles as wikipedia:Superman, Amy as Wonder Woman, Sonic as the Flash, Shadow as Batman, Silver as Green Lantern and Tails as Cyborg. The collaboration will launch with a series of monthly comics in March 2025, penned by Ian Flynn, and will also include other merchandise and licensed products through 2026.[1]

  • The concept of talking animals being counterparts of the Justice League have already happened in the mainstream DC Universe, with the team Just'a Lotta Animals, a group that was a parody of the Justice League of America, that were brought by the Zoo Crew, who is also a superhero group of talking animals.
  • Humorously, the cover for Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia became subject of a meme within the Sonic the Hedgehog fanbase, due to Wonder Woman's boot bearing heavy similarities to Amy Rose's, several months prior to the announcement of the collaboration.
  • It is unknown at this time if the comics will be canon, Though it is highly likely that it will not be canon as the website confirms the comic will be published by DC Comics and not IDW Publishing, though Ian encourages fans to read the comic for the real answer.[3]
